What's
It All Mean? The Eternal Question....
For
those of you who don't know who Mari Iijima is, you are about
to be educated. For those of you who do know, welcome back!
Mari
Iijima started off on her musical path to fame back in 1983
when two things happened almost simultaneously. She released
her first album, Rose, and shortly thereafter became the voice
of Lynn Minmay for the movie SuperSpaceFortress Macross.
What
has happened since then? Well, she is now not only across the
sea (hence the name of the site), but has now released her first
all-English CD here in the states! 16 years in the making, and
well-worth every minute! This site has been up since October
1998, although not in the same place all the time until recently.
I
noticed quite a few sites in Japan about Mari, but didn't notice
sites in the US much. To this day, there are only four US sites
that I'm aware of (including Mari's own homepage): Otaking.com,
which for some reason as of late, has not been readily viewable
(unsure as to why), Ken's Mari page at Orange-Road.com,
Mari Iijima's Home Page,
and of course, this one.
Granted,
I've not been around Mari since day one...but that was some
time ago. I first heard about Mari's music back in 1991 when
I found a friend of mine had sent me the Minmay songs collection
from the Macross movie. I've fallen head-over-heels for her
music ever since.
When
i first found marimusic.com, I had no idea that she actually
wrote it herself. Thinking it was a well-thought-out site by
a long-time fan, I wrote the webmaster thinking how wonderful
it was! Little did I know at that time that I would get a response
from Mari herself! *grin*
Ever
since October, when I had asked her about running a US fan club,
I've dedicated time and effort in making "Mari Across The
Sea" as fun and as informative as I can without sounding
boring. Perhaps, given the chance, someday I'll be able to see
Mari in concert and truly thank her for being such an inspiration,
but until then, I'll keep the fires burning here and being as
supportive of her efforts as possible. I hope you enjoy your
visit here, and come again soon!
